New Delhi: India and China will play a notable role in a reviving global economy, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has said. Kalpana Kochhar, Deputy Director, Asia and Pacific Department, IMF said that with the two economies growing at the rate of 7 per cent and 10 per cent respectively, they contributed significantly to the growth of the global economy.
Kalpana Kochhar stated that the IMF’s global growth forecast for the coming years stood at close to 4 per cent, of which advanced companies would contribute less than 2 per cent.
Kochhar said that the Indian currency was in line with fundamentals and on the subject of inflows, Kochhar said with floating currency, the currency could appreciate in reaction to inflows. Kochhar also stated that India had a healthy outflow mostly for the purposes of foreign direct investment (FDI), which served to reduce pressure on the currency.
