GRE
Managed by ETS (Educational Testing Service), the GRE Score is required for candidates seeking admission in a Masters Degree program in fields other than management.
The GRE score is valid for a period extending to 5 years but a fresh score demand after every 3 years can be insisted by premier colleges. The score is sent to 4 universities free of cost at the time of GRE exam and is charged for later.
The GRE forms are available at USEFI (U.S. Education Foundation in India) or can be downloaded from the website.

General GRE
The General GRE test is a computer adaptive test and the fees for the same is $160.
It is important to note that the General GRE can only be given Once in month and 5 times in a year and some universities averages the score if more that 1 test is given.
The Total score is out of 1600 marks – Verbal: 800 & Quantitative: 800. Additionally, Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA Essays) does not have a score but is scaled from 0 – 6.
The format of GRE is Verbal: 30 questions and 30 Minutes, Quantitative: 28 questions and 45 minutes and Analytical Writing Assessment: 2 Essays to be typed in 45 & 30 minutes respectively. The total time can be estimated at 150 minutes.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
The Test of English as a Foreign Language measures the ability of nonnative speakers of English to use and understand English as it is spoken, written, and heard in college and university settings and is offered in 2 formats in India as on date.

Computer Based Test (CBT)
The computer-based TOEFL test has four sections namely Listening, Structure, Reading and Writing and measures ability to understand English as it is spoken in North America, ability to recognize language that is appropriate for standard written English, ability to understand short passages similar in topic and style to academic texts used in North American colleges and universities and ability to write in English on an assigned topic respectively.
The format of the TOEFL CBT is: Tutorials - 30 minutes, Listening - 30 to 50 questions to be solved in 40 to 60 minutes, Structure – 20 to 25 questions to be solved in 15 to 20 minutes, Reading – 44 to 55 questions to be solved in 70 to 90 minutes and Writing - 1 topic to be completely written in a duration of 30 minutes.

Internet Based Test (iBT)
The TOEFL Internet-based test (TOEFL iBT) tests four sections namely: speaking, listening, reading, and writing measuring ability to understand academic reading matter, ability to understand English as it is used in colleges and universities, ability to speak English and ability to write in a way that is appropriate for college and university course work respectivley, and, has been introduced in India successfully.
The format of the TOEFL iBT is: Reading - 36 to 70 questions to be answered in 60 to 100 minutes, Listening – 34 to 51 questions to be answered in 60 to 90 minutes, Speaking - 6 tasks to be completed in 20 minutes and Writing : 2 tasks to be completed in 50 minutes.
